About Seaside, Oregon
Located in Clatsop County, Seaside, Oregon was named after a historic building within the area: the Seaside House. This resort was constructed in the 1870’s by a man called Ben Holladay. The area is best known for having been a resting spot for the Lewis and Clark Expedition, wherein a salt-making cairn was built. The city was officially established in the year of 1899, shortly after the Seaside House had officially established the areas of its resort.
There are a variety of highlights and things to do while visiting Seaside, Oregon. The Gilbert District is a popular place to visit while in the area, as this was the home of Alexandre Gilbert, who was the mayor of Seaside in the year of 1912. It was Gilbert who established the 1.5 mile Promenade of coastal land along the Pacific coastline, commonly referred to as the “prom”. Gilbert’s beach cottage was converted into an inn later on, and the remnants of his dwelling in Seaside are preserved in the Gilbert District. Of course, there are many attractions within Seaside, Oregon to see.
